MAS Host (Remote Back-up) PDF Print E-mail

img_rack-serversThis is the ultimate in data security for our family of florists. We are offering a remote backup system for you in the event of a system crash. Below is a list of some key features for this exciting new service.

Features & Highlights

A remote backup of your system is performed throughout the day to secure remote servers.

If your system goes down all your data is intact to your last backup. Let's face it - you could have the most powerful and most secure backup method around, but it is pretty much useless if you can't easily get your files back when you need them. You will recover your data in the event you experience a complete system failure or data loss. In addition your system is transmitting at various times remotely in case of emergency operation. A snap shot is also taken periodically during the day for restore point purposes.

Security and Encryption

With MAS Backup your data is always safe. Your backup files are encrypted using state-of-the-art, file encryption backup methods and stored in redundant, secure online data backup center. In addition, the MAS Backup software communicates with the MAS Direct Network servers using SSL (Secure Socket Layers) technology. This is the same encryption technology used by Internet browsers when a user enters a secured site such as an online bank. As a result, the online backup of data is encrypted twice. It is encrypted at all times up to 448 bit Military Strength encryption.

Storage

Your data is stored (in encrypted form) at an online data backup center, on 2 different servers. The data center has 24/7 monitoring and advanced security measures such as biometric controlled access as well as backup generators and redundant connections to the Internet.

Notification

If you want even more assurance that your backups are functioning, you have the option of receiving automatic email notifications after every successful image taken or complete backup.

Summary

The MAS remote backup service accomplishes several essential steps that are often overlooked or done improperly.

Backups are done on schedule, reliably and in some cases depending on shop size up to 5 times a day during a 24 hour period. Some businesses don't do this. For one reason or another, they don't keep a regular backup regimen. Usually it's because the person responsible for doing backups (if there is one) is too busy doing something else, or they simply forget. Since remote backups are done with automated software, backups are always done on schedule.

The MAS remote backup service is constantly reevaluating the computer system, adding files to the backup as needed during the day.

The general definition of "proper" backups requires redundancy. One must keep multiple copies of the same files at different points in their development. As an example, you should have a different copy of each backup session, i.e. Monday, Tuesday etc. Further, you should be able to easily restore any of your files up to any given point in time. Banks do it, big corporations do it, and so should small businesses.

Finally and most importantly - Backups are immediately sent offsite and stored safely away from the clients' computers and their businesses. This is where almost every business makes its biggest mistake. Even if they do everything else perfectly, backups are of little use if their building burns or they are unable to physically recover their tapes from the premises. Most small companies who do backups leave the tapes in the building with the computer, where they can be destroyed right along with the computer.

Of course, you can see that this would be a problem in a fire or flood or an earthquake. But it's also useful in emergencies where businesses are forced to evacuate their offices quickly. Even businesses that do backups and have good, undamaged tapes have to shut down. Many go out of business simply because they don't have access to their data. You do almost immediately.

The MAS remote backup service is essential in today's technology environment. It ultimately protects you against loss of data and minimizes your down time – which can run into days if you are not on this service.
